When you hear the word, ‘Beckham’, all you can think of is the beautiful Beckham family. The family of six consisting of former footballer David Beckham, Victoria Beckham and their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper are all part of the trademark brand Beckham’.
Harper, the youngest member of the family, just at the age of five has her own trademark in the United Kingdom and European Union. A research in the United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property office has revealed that all four children’s name have been successfully trademarked in seven categories including beauty products such as perfume and anti ageing creams, stationary, handbags, books, umbrellas, clothing and toys. Their trademark can also be used in the entertainment industry.
The Beckham brand is worth a lot and not registering a trademark can cause serious injury to the brand’s reputation and trade. Now that their names have been trademarked, there isn’t any doubt about their brand to flourish. David and Victoria Beckham had already registered their trademarks which helped Victoria when she went on to start her solo career. Brooklyn is already ready to release his own photo book titled ‘What I see’ , Cruz launching a pop career and Romeo modelling for Burberry. Other titles that have been trademarked between 2014 and 2015 include David Beckham Instinct, Intimately Beckham and many more and refer to aftershaves.
However, trademarking a name is usually reserved for those who are already celebrities and this move could be described as an intelligent move for the future. This trademarking of names especially to continue the family brand name could possibly be the start to a new trend which is being followed by celebrity parents to protect the future of their children so that they do not have to face any difficulty in the future.
