Google patents ‘Virtual Footwear’ Designed to Make You Feel like You’re Walking

Google has filed a patent application that details “motorized footwear” for “augmented and/or virtual reality.”

Wearing this shoe will allow a person to move as if walking, motion that can be linked to movement in the virtual environment he is experiencing. In the physical world, the motors and wheels on the shoes will negate that movement keeping the person safe from obstacles.

“This may allow the user to walk, seemingly endlessly in the virtual environment, while remaining within a defined physical space in the physical environment,” the patent application reads.

We are not sure whether Google’s VR shoes will be a real product or not. However, Google has to make sure that users don’t fall when wearing the fancy footwear. Otherwise, this won’t be an improvement over blindly stumbling around with a pair of VR goggles around the head.
